Which grit, at which stage
A typical grit sequence for a panel repair. Exact numbers vary by product system, so check the data sheet for what you're spraying.

| P180 | Feather edge | Blends filler into paint and removes P80 scratches |
| P320 | Primer prep | Final sanding before primer-surfacer goes on |
| P400–P600 | Base prep | Sands the primer smooth enough that scratches won't show through basecoat |
| P1500–P3000 | Colour sand | Wet-sands dirt nibs and orange peel from cured clear before compounding |
